Cole’s Building Supplies of Smithfield opened its doors in 1952, owned
by Edna and Laird Cole, the aunt and uncle of the present proprietor’s
wife. This store also housed the post office and a grocery store.
In 1967, Bill and Marion McIlveen, and Al and Joyce Robbins, her
parents and aunt and uncle respectively, bought the business. |

In the 80's
Cole’s
became a member of the Homecare Building Centres buying group. The
present owner, George Hamilton had worked for Cole’s since 1984 and in
1988, he and partner Don Ogden, bought his in-laws’ building centre. In 2001, Hamilton became the sole owner, after buying out his partner.

| Homecare Building Centres were an umbrella group for Matreco, TIM-BR Mart in the
West, Groupe BMR in Quebec, Award in the Maritimes. In the late 1990s, it was
decided that a national brand from coast to coast would be more
beneficial to members and the public, and so Cole’s evolved into the
present Cole’s TIM-BR Mart, owned and operated by George Hamilton. |

| Owner George Hamilton wanted a fresh new look for his business Cole's TIM-BR Mart, so in 2008 they began renovating and remodeling the exterior facade of their building to include new siding, signage, beautiful stone entrance with interlocking stone and planters. |
